A Real Summer Break
Summer Break. Ahhh. Remember when? Remember when you were a kid and school finally let out for that long awaited summer vacation?
How long has it been since you have given yourself some sort of a summer break? I'm not talking about a vacation, the annual family barbecue, or the company's picnic. I'm talking about an actual kid-at-heart summer break.
Can you recall those lazy days of summer when you ran barefoot through the grass, caught fireflies in a jar, and laid on the grass watching the clouds pass by? That's the kind of summer break I'm talking about. Have you taken one of those summer breaks in a while?
Now that the season is upon us, give yourself permission to steal away for an afternoon or a day. Sip on some real lemonade or whatever suits your fancy and let yourself enjoy some sunshine and fresh air.
Take a leisurely walk through a local park. Sit on the porch and watch the neighbor children play. Grab that book you've been meaning to read, lay a sheet out under a shade tree, and read away the afternoon. Don't be surprised if you end up snoozing!
I know we try to fit in some sort of vacation, family get-together, and what-not during the season, but those times are, more often than not, filled with much planning and hurrying and last minute to-do's. This summer, try to incorporate a couple of true summer breaks into your schedule. The type of break that doesn't call for making reservations, budget concerns, or making sure you haven't inadvertently left anyone off the guest list.
In this fast paced world of ours it's a shame to let a beautiful season like summer pass us by without taking moments here and there to quietly enjoy all it has to offer. Use this time to rejuvenate yourself. Re-evaluate your priorities. Breathe in the fresh air. Consider new possibilities. Or, simply enjoy the moment.
